Paton Miller was born in Seattle, Washington in 1953. He attended the Honolulu Academy of Arts when he was 19 years old and then embarked on a year long sojourn throughout Asia and Europe.

In the fall of 1974 Paton returned to the United States in New York and visited Southampton, New York, to see a family friend. While visiting the art department at Southampton College Paton met the director and was offered the chance to compete for a scholarship which he subsequently won with the drawings he made while traveling.

Graduating Southampton College in 1978, Paton exhibited at the Tower Gallery in Southampton and when that gallery moved to Chelsea, New York, Paton had a large two person show along with Byron Gyson. Mr. Miller was then invited to join The Nohra Haime Gallery and exhibited there for 14 years. Paton Miller's works are in private and corporate collections around the world and in museums throughout the Northeast; regionally in the permanent collections of the Hecksher Museum of Fine Art, Huntington, Long Island, Parrish Art Museum, Southampton, and Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton.
